grafting on to 3 needle pines

has anyone had experience grafting either 2 or 5 needle pines on to 3 needle pines-- -

Hi Jrholl,
Two needle work best on two needle pines. 3-5 needle pines will usually work on Pinus strobus (5 needle pine). There are some exceptions and while the grafts may take initially they may eventually fail due to incompatibility.
As a rule 1-2 needle pines work on most 1-2 needle understocks. 3-5 needle pines work on most 3-5 needle pines. In the US Pinus sylvestris (2 needle) and Pinus strobus (5 needle) are used because they are relatively easy to get.

Will P resinosa do as well or better on P sylvestis as R resinosa stock? I have tried a resinosa broom but failed and a colleague tells me he had success with the broom on P sylvestris rootstock? -
